Corrective Love
Hebrews 12:11
“For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”
As we have learned recently, love is multifaceted and takes on many different forms. It’s easy to embrace the love that makes us feel good and lifts us up, but what about the love that brings correction and forces us to look inward? There are two types of responses to this kind of love. We can either run from it or we can make the changes necessary to continue to mature and grow.
No one likes being corrected. Often the delivery can be harsh, and it can hurt our feelings. However, while unpopular, I would contend that this “corrective love” is one of the most important kinds of love a person can receive. Do we want to grow up or do we want to stay where we are? Guess what, correction brings change and maturity! Embrace it when Yahweh brings it into your life. Like the above passage states, it will later yield the peaceful fruit of righteousness. The end result if received correctly, will be the continued growth of a mature son.
