Be That Runner
2 Timothy 2:10-12 (ESV) 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11 The saying is trustworthy, for:
If we have died with him, we will also live with him;
12 if we endure, we will also reign with him;
if we deny him, he also will deny us;
Have you ever run a race? It does not matter if it was a short one like a 100-yard dash or maybe it was a long one like a marathon; either way, there has to be some form of endurance to run them. Endurance is defined as one’s ability to continue or last, especially despite fatigue, stress, or other adverse conditions. In 2 Timothy 2:12, it informs us that if we endure, we will also reign with Christ. Endurance is synonymous with choice. It is an attitude and mindset in how you approach something. So, if one makes a choice to continue regardless of the hardship, there is an immense reward to be received.
When I was a teenager, I did not like running at all. In fact, I dreaded running, especially in football practice, because it was a form of punishment. But as I got older and was exposed to running from a different perspective, it changed my mindset. I was taught running can be fun, rejuvenating, and a “stress” buster. Running became a part of my life. Yes, the more I ran, the more physical endurance I developed. But the insight from verse 12 is not about doing something more often, but having the right attitude, mindset, or FAITH to go through it. If you have faith that you can continue through anything, you now have the ability of endurance.
So, as you start your day, consider how you approach your day, your week, and your life. How do you face the problem or issue? Do you dread it or are you ready to run? Be encouraged and be that runner! Do not allow your circumstances to control you, but make the choice of faith and build your endurance.
