There is Oil
Elisha said to her, “What should I do for you? Tell me: what do you have in the house?” She said, “Your servant has nothing in the house, except a pot of oil.” 2 Kings 4:2
In this miracle, Elisha is asked for help by a widow. Her husband was faithful to Yahweh, but a debt collector is set to enslave her children to pay outstanding debts. It’s an interesting and beautiful story, where the woman first knows who to ask for help. Elisha’s response is to ask what she has to work with, and she says nothing but a pot of oil. He tells her to borrow many empty containers from her neighbors and fill them with the oil. She fills them all up, until there are no containers left, and after that the oil stops flowing. She is able to sell the oil and live well, keeping her children safe.
When you turn to Yahweh for help, know that in your heart of hearts, in the deepest depths, there is oil. It may be faith, hope, belief, grace, or strength of another kind. Whatever it is, Yahweh can work with it. You may have thought it insufficient, but He values it. Pour it out in abundance to Him, and it will be a mark of healing and redemption for many. Pour from that place until you have run out of places, and then may you find that it has made a place of prosperity. What you are made of is worthy, precious, and life-giving. May others then draw from you toward their own blessing, and you find yourself with an overflowing cup. A shared miracle. Be humble, searching, and pure, and pour out today.
