His Goodness
Mark 10:18 (ESV) 18 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.
Psalms 107:1 (ESV) Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!
Throughout scripture, Yahweh is described as good. But what does “good” mean to you? Does it mean that He gives you what you want, fixes your problems, or removes your struggle? Too often, people connect the goodness of God to how their lives are unfolding. If things are bad, then God must be bad or disinterested. But when life goes well and smoothly, then God is good and is very involved.
Have you ever heard a person announce when they get a good parking spot that God is good and has given them favor? So, in all the other times when they get a bad parking spot, is God bad? Do they still announce the goodness of God and his favor, even if the result or reward is not what one expects? The point is that regardless of the situation, the result, the struggle, or the outcome, Yahweh is good.
Consider when Joseph was sold by his brothers into slavery and eventually ended up in prison. I would imagine there were times when he did not feel God was good to him. But truth be told, the goodness of God is not based on our circumstances or outcomes but on Who Yahweh is. He IS good. So, as you start your day, let this be a reminder that Yahweh is good and his goodness toward you is always right. It may not feel like it or seem like it, but He works out all things for your good according to His plans. This understanding will change how you face each day!
