Where Does My Help Come From
Consider this. Psalm 121 says “I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from the mountains?”
There aren’t any mountains around here, so what about you? When you’re in trouble, where does your help come from? Social media? Google? A friend? A preacher? A.I.? Yourself?
My strength comes from Yahweh God, who made the heavens, and the earth, and the mountains.
He does not let me stumble. Yahweh is an intimate, all-knowing guardian who never sleeps. He is at my side, shielding me from every evil. He guards every modicum of my life. His voice tells me where to go, and he protects me in my leaving and my return. He guards me now, and always.
Does Yahweh ever stop protecting me? No. But do I forget that He’s protecting me? Sometimes. Like you, part of me is a purely natural creature that relies on my senses. I’m also given to let my mind and my emotions steer this fleshy vessel from time to time. In those times, I do my best to talk to Yahweh. And if I’m having an especially tough time, I read Psalms 121.
I will raise my eyes to the mountains;
From where will my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to slip;
He who watches over you will not slumber.
Behold, He who watches over Israel
Will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your protector;
The Lord is your shade on your right hand.
The sun will not beat down on you by day,
Nor the moon by night.
The Lord will protect you from all evil;
He will keep your soul.
The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in
From this time and forever.
