The Inheritance

“Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them.” Joshua 1:6

I was recently reading a book that talked of courage (credit: Brown, The Gifts of Imperfection). It was saying that ordinary courage relates to being willing to be vulnerable. It shared an example that when a student is willing to simply say, “I don’t understand” to a teacher, surely that individual isn’t the only one with a question. They’re just the one that had the courage to say so. By being courageous, the entire class benefits.

Being a student is more than academic: it’s being open to Yahweh, Holy Spirit, Christ, and other sources of wisdom. Courage requires vulnerability, and vulnerability requires courage. When we’re willing to step into faith, to account for Yahweh’s hand in our lives, and to speak in times of hope or doubt, we are courageously demonstrating that. It allows Yahweh to receive the glory, and it calls others in to see who He is. Their relationships are strengthened by another’s spiritual courage.

We talk of generations in our house. Generations aren’t only part of our bloodlines, but of the greater spiritual family we have the privilege to be part of. For this very generation, and the many that will flow from it, be courageous today. What is He saying? What is He doing? What is He asking you to step into? Be courageous, and see the inheritance your father has prepared for you and many others.
