Don’t Disgrace Your Heritage
Psalm 78:4
“We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.”
Heritage is defined as a special or individual possession; an allotted portion. When Steve was speaking recently, he talked about not disgracing our heritage (referring to the relationship between children and parents). He emphasized the importance of not dismissing those who came before us and making sure we bring honor to them.
Honoring our heritage is key, whether you are a child showing honor to a parent or a parent to a child. When we do this, we receive our allotted portion! And even as the above passage states, the blessings and goodness that honor brings is shared from generation to generation.
We disgrace our heritage when we ignore the wisdom of our elders. We go off course when we think we have all the answers and that no one can help us. My encouragement to you this week is to consider your heritage. If you are a child, honor your parents by drawing on their wisdom. If you are a parent, show them how you make a draw from your elders. Show them that you are not above asking for help. Show them how to honor. Have a great week!
