Your Assignment
Mark 5:18-20 (ESV) 18 As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed with demons begged him that he might be with him. 19 And he did not permit him but said to him, “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” 20 And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled.
The story of Jesus’ encounter with the demon-possessed man is impactful and demonstrates the love and grace He has for each of us. After Christ freed the man from the Legion of demons, He gave him an assignment.
Initially, the man begged Jesus if he could follow Him. But Jesus was very clear and said no. Jesus had a different assignment for him. He wanted the man to go home and spread the gospel and to be a demonstration of the gospel. If you notice in scripture, the man did as he was instructed and went on to expand Yahweh’s Kingdom. He did not complain; he did not disagree or argue. The man accepted his assignment, even if it was not what he wanted to do.
Have you ever been given an assignment that was not something you were comfortable doing? Maybe you were directed to fill a new position you did not want or asked to step out of your comfort zone. Following Yahweh is not about doing what we want but completing the assignment He gives us.
So, as you start your day, consider your life and the assignments you have been given. Yahweh’s ways and thoughts are greater than ours, and through our obedience, His Kingdom is expanded. Embrace the assignment you have been given, for it will make an impact, including in your life.
