Check The Fruit
“Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit.” Matthew 12:33
Jesus is facing a group of Pharisees when He makes this provocative statement – “a tree is known by its fruit.” He was challenging these men about what their lives have produced and the destruction they have inflicted. Yes, they may hold a title or a position, but their fruit only produces religion and death. Their goal is self-promotion, wealth, and power. Far from the call of ministry that these men were given.
Do a self-evaluation about your own life and what fruit is it known by – good or bad? Evaluate those you spend time with and give your ear to; what fruit are they producing?
So, as you start your day, do not be captivated by what the tree looks like, but consider the fruit it produces. A tree may look professional, friendly, and appealing, but do not get mesmerize by the tree. Always check the fruit.
