Serve the Greater Good
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
What if an inconvenience or sacrifice to you made way for another’s blessing?
Recently, my family was on an airplane for an early flight. After a series of unusual circumstances, including timing out after three hours on the tarmac, we deplaned to try again later. We didn’t really know why and neither did the crew. We counted the positives, remembering even delays are ordered of Yahweh.
Upon re-boarding, the lead flight attendant thanked the passengers and said that we didn’t know what danger we may have avoided or blessing it may have been. He said that someone on board may have needed that extra time for reasons we’d never know.
I considered that unknown person and my own experience. In searching my heart, I found it true that even with the series of challenges it caused me, even if I never knew why, I was willing to release my expectations and agenda in service of it.
Today, serve the greater good over your self-interests, if you feel this in your own spirit. Recognize that, like Steve said recently, what happens in our lives isn’t only for us. If there is a “no” in your life, let your spirit discern if it made way for a “yes” in someone else’s.
Set aside any selfishness or small-mindedness of a moment, and don’t allow little annoyances to be blind spots. Serve with an open heart, and you will be a source of life by doing so!
