Trust The Process
“On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: ‘Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'” Acts 1:4-5
While I was peeling an apple to chop up and steam for my baby, I was reminded of this verse and the gift that Holy Spirit is to us. Sometimes it’s easy to get in His way, even with the best of intentions.
While I was peeling the apple, I was putting a lot of pressure on the peeler to get the skin off the apple. It wasn’t working well. Holy Spirit told me to let the peeler do its job and stop applying pressure for the skin to come off. As soon as I let up, peeling the apple became almost effortless. That skin quickly peeled off and into the steamer the apple went!
I knew what that apple could become, if it would just shed its skin! Because I knew that, I was applying too much pressure in effort to speed up the process. By not allowing the tool in my hand to do what its created to do, I was actually slowing down the process of the apple becoming what it needed to be.
Pretend the apple is someone accounted to you, and the peeler is Holy Spirit… then it is through YOUR hands that Holy Spirit is able to do His work, peeling back layers to get to the fruit. What’s important for us is not to try and become someone’s Holy Spirit, but let Holy Spirit peel back those layers without our added pressure. Just as Holy Spirit is a gift to us, He is a gift to them too. Allow Him to do what He does. Trust the process.
A lot of times Holy Spirit just needs our hands, not our strength.
