You Are Who You Associate With
“Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character.” 1st Corinthians 15:33
Have you ever been hanging out with a group of people and then realize you start to talk and even act like everyone you are around? This can be a positive or a negative scenario. As the above passage states, your character can can be corrupted by who you spend time with. And the scary part is you may not even realize it is happening. It may be a gradual, small change over time.
Your time is valuable and one of your most important currencies. Who you give your time to matters. Now, this doesn’t mean you never associate with the unrighteous, but if you invest a large amount of time into people who are “bad company,” eventually you will conform to their way of life.
I would encourage you this week to be mindful and intentional about who you spend time with. Find people of strong character and distance yourself from those who bring you down. If you find yourself to be unhappy, find the happiest person you know and invest time into them. Over time, you will see a change in your mood and temperament. You are who you surround yourself with!
