Set Your Mind On the Things Above
“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” Colossians 3:1-3
As always, Paul has a way of reminding us who we are in Christ, and giving us the how or why, instruction and he seamlessly reconciles the 1st and 2nd Testaments. Nothing about our Kingdom walk is “textbook”, that would be religion. No one circumstance is like another and our relationships with the Father are not cookie-cutter, but, there are foundational principles we can rely on that will help us in our journey no matter how simple or complicated it may seem, no matter how extraordinary or mundane.
Regardless of wherever you are today this instruction applies, whether your day feels good or bad, easy or hard. If we are in Christ, let us keep our eyes on heavenly things. We have a choice every day to set our eyes on what is above (looking to the Father, locking eyes with Him) or we can look at what goes on around us. We can look to the right and to the left and be moved by the highs or lows or we can look straight ahead with vision and focus on where He is leading us. We don’t have to let what goes on around us be what is in us.
The old you may have looked around and been moved or swayed by what you saw or heard in the flesh, but if we have truly died and are new in Him, we are hidden (tucked away, secure and safe, covered). We have assurance that He is working all things for our good. Our minds aren’t filled with worries or vain imaginations, or endless concerns. Rather, we as a new creation are in step with Him, in His shadow, seated in Christ, and knowing that He’s already done it. Whatever it is, is already done.
My encouragement today is this: set your mind on Him. What is He saying today? Have a conversation with Him rather than a conversation about whatever is going on around you. Where is He moving? Discern where Yahweh is and position yourself in alignment. How is the Father moving today? Move in sync with Him. Set your heart and your mind on heavenly things.
