Do Not Cover It Up
Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV) 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Have you ever noticed that when you walk into a dark room, a small light influences the entire room? It does not matter where in the room you move the light; it still impacts the room. The only way to limit the light’s ability is to either cover it up or remove it.
Christ directs us to let our light shine before others and to not cover it up or hide it. This light is a representation of the anointing, authority, and power you have been given. This light is a reflection of the Light of Christ that is in you.
Recently, a friend confided with me about some challenges he was dealing with regarding career and financial choices. At times, he even made excuses for some of the decisions that brought him to his current state. As a friend, I began to encourage and support him, but I also spoke the truth to him. I wanted my light to shine, and this light was manifested by speaking truth to his situation. Speaking the truth can be sharp, dividing, and difficult for others to hear. Frankly, it may even be emotionally challenging for the person sharing. But if you genuinely love and care for others, there is no compromise, and your light must shine.
So, as you start your day, have there been times you covered up your light? Have you ever just walked away and removed your light? As you walk by the Spirit of God, He will adjust and guide your light. There will be times when your light needs to be bright, sharp, and exposing. And there will be times when it needs to be comforting, warm, and still. Hear His voice and obey it as you glow before others. Do not cover it up.
