Real Peace
Consider this. The most accepted definition of the word peace means ‘freedom from disturbance’ or ‘tranquility.’
If that’s your definition of peace, you’re in danger of it being destroyed very quickly. That’s the kind of peace that sounds nice– and could be visualized as a still, placid pond. But that means that even if a dragonfly lands on that still, placid pond, it causes ripples. Is that how frail you want your peace to be?
If peace is defined as ‘freedom from disturbance’, can someone please tell me the secret of taking that out into the world without it falling to pieces? You’re going to encounter disturbances of all sizes. So does that mean you just can’t have peace?
And what happens when something larger than just a ‘dragonfly’ lands in your placid pond? What happens when someone hucks a boulder in there? Your frail ‘do not disturb’ peace is utterly obliterated.
Scripture tells us something different about peace. It says ‘And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.’ (Philippians 4:7) When you center yourself in Christ, and you truly walk in the peace of God, your literal definition of peace changes. It’s no longer tranquility that’s frail and can only stay intact when it is left alone. When you’re centered in Christ, your Peace (with a capital P) becomes ‘tranquility in spite of disturbances’.
But how can you truly achieve this Peace without it being fake? First of all, if you know Christ, know that you have access to it. Don’t be shy or afraid. Simply ask Yahweh for His Peace to manifest in your life. It’s not magic, and sometimes it’s a process, but it is very real, and it can be yours abundantly. Simply ask.
