Don’t Miss It

John 6:25-26 (ESV) 25 When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?” 26 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves.

We are all familiar with the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish. It truly was a miracle and a great reminder to all of us of how Christ can change the impossible into the possible. But if you continue to read about this amazing event in John 6, you will notice those who were fed with bread and fish began to search for Christ the next day. When they finally found Him, the true reason behind their journey was not pursuing the Provider of life but for food for their stomachs.  Their focus was on what they could take and not what they could receive from Christ’s visit.

Yes, we all have needs and wants. We need food, we need clothing, we need shelter, and the list of wants can be endless. But these all pale in comparison to the need for Christ and the relationship with Yahweh. We get preoccupied by what is in front of us and become distracted from the visitation of Christ. Consider, you have Christ standing in front of you. But your pursuit is bread and fish. I dare say that many of us do the same today. We seek our own version of bread and fish; it may be finances, a car, a house, a spouse, children, etc. These in themselves are not evil, but they should never be the reason we miss the visitation of Christ.

So, as you start your day, consider your own life. Have you missed a visitation opportunity with Christ because you became too focused on something or someone else? Are you allowing busyness or other things to steal your time and divert your attention?

John 6:27 (ESV) 27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.”

Today, let us all refocus and ensure we are paying attention to Christ’s visitations. Bread and fish are needed, but they do not overrule Yahweh. Make sure not to miss His visitation.
