Consider Your Prayer
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9 (ESV)
Today I began to see this particular scripture in a new way. Recently at The Rock we have been learning to talk to the Father via our relationship and not religiously. This got me thinking; It has been my experience, as well as past teachings, that Yahweh’s thoughts and ways cannot be the same as ours. This was based on a church belief and not on literally “leaning in” to the Father in a willing relationship.
I thought for many years that I was communicating with Him and dialoguing well at the same time. I came to see that what many people called “talking to yourself” was really me connecting to Yahweh. The problem for me, that just came to light, was that what I was saying was not edifying to me or to God. I would find myself saying negative things about myself and even using terms to describe my character that no one else, especially Yahweh would use to describe me.
When I read Isaiah this week I realized that my ways and thoughts were not His and that doesn’t speak well of the relationship I thought I had. First, I had to see myself from His vantage point and not my own, then start addressing Him as my Father and not someone I was using when I couldn’t “work things out” myself. I didn’t even notice I was doing this until I called myself an idiot for some silly mistake. Well, Yahweh didn’t call me that, I did! I had been speaking like this for quite some time and THIS had to change. I had to think about what He thought at that very moment and use different language as He changed my perspective and GAVE me His thoughts and His ways!
Today, as you move through life and consider your prayer time in relationship with the Lord, pause before your thoughts and listen for His voice. He is always present but sometimes we fog up the listening part of the relationship. This will help you to have better relationships all around and is worthy of your consideration. To The King!
