Yahweh’s Question
“Would not God discover this? For He knows the secrets of the heart.” Psalm 44:21
Do you find anything interesting about the passage above? “Would not God discover this…..”
Why or how would God discover something? He knows everything, right?
Yahweh God is the creator of all, and yes, I believe He knows all, sees all, hears all. Nothing catches Him off guard or unaware. This does not take away our free will or ability to choose. He allows his sons to make choices and decisions, and I believe delights in them when they are honoring to Him. No, the Father does not ask a question because He does not know. He asks because He wants us to know.
But the LORD God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” Genesis 3:9
Yahweh did not ask Adam and Eve where they were that day in the garden because He didn’t know. He knew very well. He wanted them to respond so they would know and would recognize they were hiding from Him.
When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” John 21:15
The Christ, as part of the trinity, asked this of Peter, not because He questioned Peter’s love for Him. Jesus already knew. He asked because He wanted to remove any doubt and He wanted for Peter to always remember. Jesus did not want anything to hold Peter back.
These are but two examples. Yahweh already knows the answer when He asks you a question. It is our responsibility as a son to seek and understand. When the Father asks a question of you look beyond the immediate words. What is He wanting you to see? What is He wanting you to discover? Consider what and why He is asking. The answer you discover will most likely bring you to a new place of maturity and to a deeper relationship with Him.
