Fire Works

He makes his Angels the wind and his ministers burning fire.Psalm 104:4

Recently, we just celebrated The 4th of July as a nation. It is a joyful holiday and very different than Christmas or Thanksgiving which are usually very sentimental and touching or endearing. It is a significant day for our country, and 4th of July is a national party of barbeques, pool parties, beach excursions, family and friends together, and the culmination being the grand fireworks in every city and town, with mortars and sparklers going off in driveways, and squeals of delight at the big and the small displays lighting up the dark night sky.

I found it interesting that we had just come through two weeks of being taught about the fire and the forge. Fire, hammer, press. If you have not invited the fire yet, you should. As we were taught about the fire specifically, I realized we were about the celebrate this holiday, and what is the mark of this day? Fireworks. I heard it differently though…. Fire Works. I realized we were about to witness a demonstration of the fire working and what it may look like by the spirit, and what the result looks like if we allow it to work in us.

As the fire and heat are brought to the mortar, sparkler, bottle rocket, or cakes there is an anticipation of expectation of what comes next: glorious beauty. The fireworks industry is lucrative during this holiday for a reason. Everyone wants to witness and experience the wonder as the fuse is lit, the excitement of when it is about to go off, the joy as you watch the fireworks leave their containers and shoot into the sky, and the delight of seeing what kind of firework it is. What color will it be? Is it a solid boom sound or does it make the shooting whistle sounds? Does it go off just once or multiple times, and does it rain down, or look like a comet or fireflies? There is beauty in each one and it lights up the dark sky all over the country. On the rare occasion there is a “dud” you can almost feel a collective, “Ugh” of disappointment from those watching when it does not go as it should.

When His fire comes to us, this is what we can expect. It may be hot, uncomfortable, even explosive, but it produces a glorious, beautiful light and becomes a mark of the work of His hand. His fire produces exactly what He sends it to, it always works, and it is never a dud. His fire works, every time. Each one is different, and each one full of intent and full of His glory. Get excited about what the fire is bringing. I’ll reiterate what has already been spoken on the floor because I believe the truth within it: trust the process. His fire works.
