A True Witness
The other day, my husband had a stranger approach him and with a shaking voice they said, “I feel like I’m supposed to tell you that Jesus loves you.” He said, “Thank you!” Noting the courage it took for the young lady to approach him and say that.
I found myself saddened by her comment and “bravery.” While it would be easy for me to say, “That’s right!” Because we know He does, I couldn’t help but consider what the Church and Christians have become.
There seem to be two extremes. The first is, “Don’t let anyone in the Church that doesn’t look like you, talk like you, act like you, or exercise their faith exactly the same way that you do. Keep the Church pure.” And the second is, “Target everyone you think needs Jesus.” I believe that day my husband was targeted because he is covered in tattoos, one of which is a burning church that I am certain she saw while he was serving her coffee.
All of that to say, can you be the one to demonstrate the true love of Jesus Christ? Can you be the one that doesn’t look for a “sinner” based on your own standards, and be the one that answers the call of the baa’ing sheep regardless of what they look like, talk like, act like, and whether or not they have any faith? As you start your day today, I encourage you to consider how you represent Christ. Even with the best of intentions, if we try to build the Kingdom according to our own standards and beliefs, it will fall. We have to let Holy Spirit’s voice be the loudest voice in our heart and mind which means not rejecting according to our own standards and not reaching according to our standards.
