“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7
Fear is a powerful emotion or as I would like to say “mind-set.” They are two types of fear, there is the “healthy type” where it serves to help protect a person from harm, or it can be profound reverence for someone or something. But then there is that fear that is harmful. It is something that can literally freeze a person right in their tracks. It can make a person indecisive, apprehensive, or panic. This type of fear usually is derived from not knowing the future, or a sense of losing control.
Most of us have one time or another may have experience this debilitating type of fear. Maybe it was the death of someone close, the loss of a job, a medical diagnosis, or a traumatic accident. None of those situations are easy, and they can generate much fear. If left unchecked it can lead to many physical changes, such as anxiety, depression, irritability, and insomnia. But it can also negatively impact your spirit. It will rob you of your peace, it will undermine your faith, and it will generate doubt.
But here is the good news, Yahweh did not give us a spirit of fear but one of assurance. Once a person recognizes the God that we serve, fear will dissipate, and a faith will rise. This faith begins to build confidence, and it will empower you to face the challenge at hand to defeat it!
Yes, in life there are many unknowns, and numerous areas we cannot control. But the one thing we can do is trust in Yahweh and His faithfulness to us. In those moments, those overwhelming moments, you can turn your spirit and focus on Him and He will enable you to overcome.
So, as you start your day, is fear keeping you at bay, or impeding your journey? Fear is a lie and a distraction. Turn your faith and focus away from the lie and trust your loving Father. No, the problem will not “magically” go away, but with a fresh focus of faith it will empower you to overcome it!
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
