You Are What You Eat

The Rock of Central Florida   -

“And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].” Romans 12:2

“You are what you eat.”

I was reminded this week of this funny little quote I remember being taught in grade school. It just popped into my mind and gave me pause. Naturally and practically speaking, we know what we eat and put into our body affects every aspect of who we are. It affects our overall health, our eyesight, our minds, our gut, our heart, and it even effects our sleeping patterns, moods, and energy levels. Even certain foods are known for being good for eyesight, heart health, brain health, or even muscle building or blood building. We will intentionally eat certain foods when trying to improve or correct certain areas, and will avoid others when we know they are detrimental to our health.

Spiritually, you are also what you feast upon. What you watch or look at, what you listen to, who you fellowship with or spend your time with, where you go, what you spend your time doing- this is all feasting, and I have noticed it has been a recurring theme in our house the last couple weeks with an emphasis on taking a look at who we spend time with (good counsel) or what we listen to.

It is practical to evaluate what it is that we allow into our lives. What we let in is what will come out, you become what you behold, you are what you eat. It becomes the nourishment for our soul, and it can either be good for you or not. What we spend time looking at we begin to look like, what goes into our ears is what we begin to sound like, and it will often begin to manifest in the natural. How we spend our time is what feeds our spirit man. It will either become healthy and strong or sickly and weak.

Consider this, what we dwell upon becomes the pattern of our thoughts and ultimately the way we speak. What we look at and listen to affects our minds, our moods, and even our energy- input and output. Who we surround ourself with can ultimately be a matter of life or death.

This body is a temple for Yahweh God to live and dwell. Tend to it. Nourish it by feasting on the sights and sounds of His goodness. Fill it with life giving sustenance and surround yourself with those who are doing the same. Guard your eye gates with fierce resolution, engage in Kingdom conversation, and avoid the confusion of Babylon.
