Goodness Rains
“I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of The Lord in the land of the living!” Psalm 27:13
On the way to The Rock this past Sunday, my child was having a difficult time. I moved to the backseat to bring calm and see what was going on. I brushed my hand on the top of his head and looked into his eyes, and he immediately drew peace. I started singing the song “Goodness” that Kaley Hoffman wrote some years ago. It’s one that I sang over us right after he was born, and one that I sang many times during newborn nights to get him back to sleep.
“I will see your goodness everywhere, and I will sing of it over and over. Even in the whirlwind, you’ll find me standing there singing your goodness rains, your goodness reigns.” Every time I’ve sung this to Yahweh, but in this moment, I recognized it was to my child too. When music began at the service, and we sang this song as a congregation, I was so thankful.
Sometimes we need to remind ourselves to look at those we love, and those we are assigned to, to see the goodness in them. Even in their whirlwinds, to remember that Yahweh’s spirit is within. Remember that the potential of that spirit can reign over whatever the natural looks like. It’s easy to be caught in the whirlwind, and it’s easy to see the Adam in another, but whether it’s your child, your co-worker, or yourself – see His goodness, see His mark, and let it rain.
