Behold Unity
“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head…” Psalms 133:1-2
I love how David joined unity and the anointing in this Psalm. Or, the precious oil, in the New International Version. Nevertheless, each version describes the oil as a continuous flow that starts with the unity of humankind.
How awesomely simply is the answer to accomplishing anything? Many creatures throughout nature understand that there is great success in unity. All the way from the mightiest elephant to the smallest ant. They have come to realize that life is in unity. However, more than any creature created, man understands the power of unity and has used it for personal gain since the beginning of time. Unfortunately, knowledge is not always accompanied by wisdom, and wisdom is not always joined to the love of Yahweh.
I guess unity is one of those things easier said than done. The kind of unity that David is referring to will never be accomplished outside of the will of the Father. David understood that. He knew there had to be communion between the sons of God. He stated, “…for brothers to dwell together…” Not in just any manner, but in the love and wisdom of Yahweh.
Although, we do form groups and armies, it is when we form families that we are most effective. Families that are united by Spirit and love, not just by blood or cause. It is not always just within the many, but it is always within the faithful that the precious oil of the anointing will continuously flow through and cause righteous change.
