Got Anxiety?
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Phillipians 4:6-7
Anxiety seems to be a typical feeling in our modern culture. It is described as intense, excessive, and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations. This can result in a fast heart rate, loss of sleep, loss of appetite and eventually send one seeking a remedy. There are counselors, oils, meditations, and a plethora of medications prescribed to address this feeling. But what does your God say about anxiety? In Phillipians 4:6-7, scripture has its own prescription for those overwhelmed by this terrible feeling. Yahweh commands us to resist anxiety by prayer and thanksgiving. We make our request known to him by speaking to him what is in our heart. Release completely all the concerns that fill our mind and lay it at his feet. And then …we praise! Thanksgiving is the God given antidote for anxiety! Prayer and thanksgiving open the gate for the peace of God. This type of peace is a guard of the heart and mind, keeping us in complete alignment with our father. It does not require understanding! Every thought and emotion must give way to the peace of God when we are rightly positioned in Christ. So, the next time you begin to feel anxiety raising its head, begin to acknowledge Yahweh’s goodness in your life and give thanks. His peace will guard your heart and mind, that is a promise.
