What Do You See?
“Thus saith God the LORD, he that created heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; to open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things I do declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.”
Isaiah 42:5-9
Throughout scripture Yahweh asked men to “see”. Often you will read where angels ask the prophets, “What do you see?” Even Jesus evoked this question frequently. What do you see?
Recently, I was with my eight-month-old grandbaby. I watched as she continually put everything unfamiliar into her mouth. I knew she was trying to discover what she did not know. Holy Spirit spoke to me in that moment. How many times do we as believers encounter unfamiliar circumstances and begin to use our mouth to try and reason what we are experiencing?
As my grandbaby matures, she will begin to see and know her surroundings with the ability to properly discern the things in it. She will develop to the place where she can choose toys she wants to play with and know their function, without using her mouth. As we mature, we learn to see and identify Yahweh’s hand in our lives. Rather than speak about our circumstances and ask everyone around us for advice, we grow to know our father’s heart and recognize his ways. We can see him in all things.
Today, I ask you to look around. “What do you see?” May we, as mature sons, see, know, and frame our world by his word and spirit. The former things have come to pass, and he is making all things new!
