The Value of Friendship

The Rock of Central Florida   -

I’m sure we’ve all been in that place where we have picked up the phone and called or texted a friend for their input or advice.  Maybe it was a time when you just needed to spill your heart out to them or tell them something hilarious that had happened that particular day.

As I reflect on all people that Yahweh have placed in my life, I have come to the realization that I would not be where I am today if those people had not listened to the voice of Yahweh to speak truth to me even if I did not want to hear it. The truth is, Yahweh designed us for friendship and loves it when we connect and encourage each other. Friendship is a gift from Yahweh, and it is an opportunity for us to show and receive love in the same way that He loves us.

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

John 15:12-13

In our friendships we find trusted companions who know us and love us for who we are, no matter what. I will admit that sometimes navigating friendships can be challenging and messy at times, but they can have a powerful effect on us, even if it is for a season.  True friendship will speak the truth and share their perspective even if it hurts or it is hard to receive.  We also need to guard our heart, make sure that our friends are for us and not against us. A good friendship is always a two-way street: talking and listening, giving and receiving, loving and being loved. Friendships need to challenge you to grow into a place where Yahweh has called you and support you along the way.

Yahweh is a friend of imperfect people. He knows every side of us…the good, the bad, and the ugly…and yet he still loves us, isn’t that awesome?

How can you make an impact in the lives that Yahweh has placed in your life?

When you have reached out to a friend and shared what Yahweh has placed on your heart or give words of encouragement to support them.  Sometimes it might just be a friendly call to check in an see how they are really doing.

“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.’

1 Thessalonians 5:11
