Representatives of Christ
“Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.”
Romans 15:2
How many people will you come in contact with today? How many people have you already interacted with since you woke up? There’s potential for a lot of interactions between you and family, friends, coworkers, that Starbucks employee who made your coffee. Now in all these conversations with people, there’s something important to remember; we are an extension of Christ everywhere we go. When we’re talking to all the people we come into contact within our day to day lives, are we being the example of Christ that He would be proud of or disappointed with?
I think this verse in Romans 15 is a great reminder as to how we are supposed to treat people. As sons, we should be building others up, not tearing them down. Do we encourage our spouses and children, or point out every mistake they’ve made? Do we celebrate with our friends’ accomplishments, or call out their flaws? Are we kind and understanding to the barista that messed up our order, or do we berate them and try to make them feel bad? We all have our moments that we may not be the best representative of Jesus, but if we can remember the call to build others up and make it a priority, we will make an impact in our circles that will grow the Kingdom and please the Father. So today, let’s all go out of our way to build our neighbors up and encourage one another!
