Correct Your Seed
Don’t wait to bring correction to your seed!
“Eli’s sons were scoundrels; they had no regard for the Lord….”
“This sin of the young men was very great in the Lord’s sight, for they were treating the Lord’s offering with contempt.”
1st Samuel 2:12 and 17
The story of Eli and his sons stood out to me this week. It showed what can happen when someone like Eli (a good man) does not deal with his own seed and the consequences that come after. I wonder how many of us with children have glossed over something or not dealt with something right away with our kids, only to find that it becomes a much larger problem later on.
Now, I don’t envy the position Eli was in. Yahweh wanted to kill his sons because of everything they were doing to dishonor the sacrifice. God forbid any parent be put in that position. However, maybe there were smaller corrections that could have been made earlier in his sons’ lives that would have steered them away from the wrong path. What could Eli have done when they were younger to avoid having Yahweh require their lives to make things right?
As a father, I love my children and want to see them fulfill their purpose. This means I need to help them when they are young make right choices, bringing correction when needed, so that they will in turn make right choices as adults. I want to encourage the parents this week to not be afraid to make the hard choices early on to avoid the seemingly impossible choices when it’s too late.
