May They See In Us
Matthew 5:16 – Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
This morning I put my baby in her play chair in my bathroom so that I could take a shower and get ready for work. The moment I closed the curtain she started crying. I tried talking to her to calm her down, but she didn’t understand where my voice was coming from. When I’d poke my head out, she’d stop crying and give me a big gummy grin. As soon as I was out of sight again, she’d start wondering where I was and cry for me. I kept saying, “I’m in the same room baby! It’s only a small piece of fabric between us! You can still hear Mommy! I’m right here!” Immediately Holy Spirit reminded me that in her developmental stage she can’t reason that I’m just behind the curtain. When she can’t see me, I am gone. And He likened that to lost souls. In their developmental stage as a Son, they have to see Him to know He is there. How do they see Him? When they see us. As much as I tried to comfort my baby with my voice, it wasn’t until she saw me that she knew I was there. We can be as loud as we want and it won’t change a thing.
May they SEE in us the hope that will lead to salvation. They need to see us. At some point they will mature beyond that and understand “we’re just behind the curtain.”
