Honoring Leaders
Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you
Hebrews 13:17
I hope we all have a favorite teacher, someone that we looked up to, admired, wanted to be like. Mine was Ulysses S. Gallman from when I was a freshman in high school. The reason was that he made learning fun. The fact that I can remember his name and only one other teacher some 30 years later (Shoutout to Mrs. Carter) when I cannot even remember what I had for lunch 2 weeks ago is a testament to the impact they had.
Leadership is serving others from a place of selflessness that points to Yahweh. It is not a one size fits all model. The best kind of leader is one that takes great joy in being the best kind of leader, the kind that helps us to grow and become a better version of ourselves. A leader that makes you soar rather than sink. A leader who trains up to release rather than keep you in shackles. A leader that thinks of others than his own ambitions.
Yahweh, and his son Christ, were the original and best kind of leaders. They take great joy in not only being the best kind of leader themselves, but also seeing us become a great leader with purpose, design, and intent.
We are commanded to respect our leaders, whether it be a teacher or leaders of our job or lives. The bible verse above commands that not only must we respect and have confidence in them, but we also help them. Being a leader is not just a one-way line of communication, both in the spiritual and the natural, but rather we also play a part in supporting our leaders and we have a choice to make. We are all called to be a leader at some capacity. What kind of leader will you strive to be?
